Bronze Medalist - Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards

The Girl with No Sol wins BRONZE in the 2022 Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards!

I’m so happy to announce that my YA novel placed in the Young Adult Fiction - General category. It’s been an incredible year for my debut novel. Over the summer, it placed in the international Next Generation Indie Book Awards (Young Author category). Now, it placed in the Moonbeams.

It feels good knowing that people all over the world are enjoying the book. The very words that flowed through me. I poured so much into my writing and dedicated countless hours to finally make this story and vision come to life in a physical format.

Thank you to all the judges for valuing diverse books and for even noticing mine. It’s an honor to receive such prestigious recognition for my work. These competitions have provided me reassurance that my words can touch others, that they matter and mean something. Winning reminded me that even self-published books deserve more exposure and love; it made me realize that there is so much talent out there that probably isn’t being recognized, especially minorities and underrepresented voices.

My hope is to continue to write diverse, entertaining, and realistic fiction, with characters we can relate to. Next month, I’ll be heading to Traverse City, Michigan to attend the awards ceremony and to sell signed copies at the Traverse City Children’s Book Festival. See you all there!

Celebrating youthful curiosity & discovery through books & reading.

The Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards were established in 2006 by Jenkins Group and IndependentPublisher.com. They bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and are dedicated to supporting childhood literacy and lifelong learning.

Categories include picture books, board books, pre-teen fiction, young adult fiction, and non-fiction. I particularly like the Moonbeams due to their diversity of categories specifically for children/ young adult books, as well as their effort to promote diverse themes. One category is devoted for books written in Spanish. Other categories include environmental issues and health issues.

Judges for the Moonbeams include librarians, booksellers, children, educators, and bloggers. The awards ceremony is held in conjunction with the annual Traverse City Children’s Book Festival. This year, the festival will take place Saturday, November 14. If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by and say hello! There will be many other amazing authors and publishers in attendance, too. :)
