2022 Vision Boards
Now that it’s a new year, it’s the perfect time to create a new vision board.
You may be wondering what a vision board is. A vision board is a collage containing pictures, quotes, and other words or images that represent the goals and dreams you wish to accomplish.
Last year, I took a purple galactic poster, magazines, and other supplies and began piecing together what I wanted to manifest. As I planned where to place my content on the poster, disappointment took over. I realized that my 2021 vision board was basically a repeat of my 2020 goals. I had to remind myself that the pandemic occurred and that everything was at a halt in 2020. Although I didn’t accomplish everything I had envisioned, I told myself that it was a new opportunity to go after these big dreams.
So, I continued gluing away. For 2021, the biggest dream burning within me was publishing my book. At the center of the poster, I glued a drawing of my book’s cover. Other goals or dreams involved traveling, music, sightseeing, positive connections with others, and living life to the fullest. Sunflowers, guitars, coffee, stars, Baby Yoda, and the world soon took up space next to my book. Phrases like “Taking flight,” “La vie est belle,” and “Once upon a time” joined them, too. Affirmations—which are positive, self-empowering phrases—intertwined with the pictures and phrases. One example was: “I trust in the creative impulse that flows through me.”
Every day, I would wake up and glance at the vision board in my room, resting on my music stand. But a poster hanging in your home isn’t going to magically make all your dreams come true; work has to be put in to see an outcome.
Now that 2021 ended, I am proud of myself for publishing my book, The Girl with No Sol. I created better habits. I made progress. And I think that’s all that really matters. It’s never too late to become a better version of yourself.
It’s now 2022, so it seems appropriate to create a new vision board . Remember, vision boards don’t have to be huge posters. It can be a little reminder posted on your bulletin board. You can even make multiple boards: one for home, one for work, one for school, etc.
If you’re thinking about making one, here’s a list of materials to get you started:
Background for your board (paper, cardstock, poster, journal page, etc.)
Magazines (you will cut out pictures and phrases from them)
Glue sticks
Scissors
Other printed pictures
Sticky notes
Markers, crayons, or other writing utensil
To begin, skim through the magazines and cut out any pictures or phrases that resonate with you. If there’s anything you can’t find in them, you can either draw or print out an image or phrase. You can write affirmations and quotes on the sticky notes. Something I did last year was cut out pictures of things I like, even if it didn’t have to do with a goal. For example, I added a cup of coffee and penguins.
After you have everything you want to add to your board, plan out where you want to place everything before gluing. You can also make sure to leave some blank space if you’d like to continue adding onto the board as the year progresses.
You don’t have to wait until the new year to start a vision board. In fact, you should make one whenever you feel like it or when you’re ready for some serious change in your life. Wishing you an amazing 2022!
